Debunking Consciousness: Are Humans Really the Most Intelligent Species on the Planet?

"What does it say about human intelligence that for all our apparent intelligence, we didn't realize and take into consideration our dependence on the other beings here, but we went ahead and decided we could use them for our own purposes as we see fit, which actually contribute to our own detriment and harm. Since as we terrorize, destroy, pollute otherwise wreak havoc on our world, we do so to ourselves, tainting the very food we eat, the water we drink, the air we breathe. Does that sound like the actions of an 'intelligent' species?"

You do it to Yourself - Life Review

Does a point of Innocence still exist within humanity if we always actually know what we’re doing, accepting and allowing in thought, word and deed?

Why Couldn't I Stop Myself?

Why do you experience moments in which you tell yourself that you couldn’t help yourself? How do these experiences of seemingly losing control of yourself develop? How can you support yourself to take control of your words and actions?

Americans trash about 1/3 of their food, worth $161bn - USDA

"The shocking statistic gives a new meaning to the term ‘junk food,’ as Americans are sending 133 billion lbs (60 billion kg) of food to the garbage dump each year. To put it another way, 141 trillion calories annually – or 1,249 calories per capita daily – went uneaten in the United States, according to a report by the US Department of Agriculture. The USDA warned that developed countries like the United States – where 49 million people lived in food-insecure households out of a total population of over 305 million - should not take their current level of food security for granted. " Food is a Human Right - but WHY is it wasted?

A Wage Slave's Journey to Life: Day 1: Do You Care about Your Low Wage Job?

"So, essentially, our 'jobs' don't really care about us. We are usually quite expendable/easily replaced and so there's really no regard for you as an individual human being who is giving their labor to this company so it can make a profit. If you don't want to do the job, then you can just be fired and the next one brought in. What happens then is that we take this lack of care for us and use it as the justification to do the same, to not care either. Where, if my job doesn't care about me, then why am I going to care about it. Why would I do more than I have to? Why am I really going to put myself into it and do my best, when it's perfectly happy to take the profits from my labor and not pay me enough, not pay me the true value of what I put in?"

4 ways privatization is ruining our education system

"1. Charter Schools Have Not Improved Education 2. The Profit Motive Perverts the Goals of Education 3. Advanced Profit-Making: Higher Education 4. Lower-Performing Children Left Behind Compared to other developed countries, equal education has been a low priority in America, with less spending on poor children than rich ones, and with repeated cutbacks in state funding. But there’s no market-based reform where children are involved. Education can’t be reduced to a lottery, or a testing app, or a business plan. Equal opportunity in education ensures that every child is encouraged and challenged and nurtured from the earliest age, as we expect for our own children." America can spend 8.5 trillion dollars on defense department, but suffers from turning Education into a very expensive indoctrination machine. Living Income Guaranteed model will ensure no more privatization of Education takes place, we also agree that the Profit-Motive perverts Education. World's largest solar farm is SCORCHING BIRDS that fly over it

"cool observation, we are attempting to create energy sources to sustain our current destructive WAY of LIFE, which we call life styles, we need to reduce our life styles to that which is sustainable, then we don't need farms and massive areas to create massive farms of renewable energy sources. much is to be considered and taken into account before we can reach real change. otherwise we are just fucking around and harming life more." Gian Robberts Great point and important to get. We've really got to take everything into consideration and look at what is really necessary so we can produce as little harm as possible, because why would we want to produce harm in any case if it's not actually necessary and can be avoided? We've got to remember and consider that we aren't the only beings on this planet, there are many many others that function in many many different ways, all affected by our impact for better or worse. Let's make sure it's better.

Robert Reich: Inequality has warped the minds of America’s rich

"#America has a serious “We” problem — as in “Why should we pay for them?” The question is popping up all over the place. It underlies the debate over extending #unemployment benefits to the long-term unemployed and providing food stamps to the poor. It’s found in the resistance of some young and healthy people to being required to buy health insurance in order to help pay for people with preexisting health problems." #RobertReich #inequalityforall

The Bone-Chilling, Heart-Wrenching Process Of Counting The Nation’s Homeless

I was just reading about how the homeless are counted in my own state of residence, WA. This shouldn't even be necessary because everyone should have proper housing as a basic right, because it's a basic need.

Joao Jesus - She

A great song by Joao Jesus! Lyrics: She, She is like a light in a dark room With curly hair to fight away the gloom You’ve never seen such care She won’t stop until she gets it done Even a horse she can outrun And she can be quite fun She is a Life lover She is such a nice hugger She is a Life lover She is such a nice hugger She, She has traveled across the stars Although she barely can drive a car She can get to where you are In just one single breath She can see beyond death And show you how to be free She is a Life lover She is such a nice hugger She is a Life lover She is such a nice hugger I hope you get the chance To meet her for a dance She is a Life lover She is such a nice hugger She is a Life lover She is such a nice hugger I hope you get the chance To meet her for a dance

World's 85 richest people have as much as poorest 3.5 billion: Oxfam warns Davos of ‘pernicious impact’ of the widening wealth gap

“This massive concentration of economic resources in the hands of fewer people presents a significant threat to inclusive political and economic systems,” the charity said. “People are increasingly separated by economic and political power, inevitably heightening social tensions and increasing the risk of societal breakdown.” Winnie Byanyima, Oxfam’s executive director, who will attend Davos, described the gulf between sectors of society as staggering. “We cannot hope to win the fight against poverty without tackling inequality. Widening inequality is creating a vicious circle where wealth and power are increasingly concentrated in the hands of a few, leaving the rest of us to fight over crumbs from the top table,” she said.

West’s interpretation of freedom for Ukraine ‘strange’ – Lavrov

“What does the inciting of street protests, which are growing increasingly violent, have to do with promoting democratic principles?” Lavrov said. “Why do we not hear statements of condemnation toward those who seize government buildings, attack and burn police officers, and voice racist and anti-Semitic slogans? Why do senior European politicians de facto encourage such actions, while at home they swiftly and harshly act to stop any impingement on the letter of the law?” “The International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights states that the freedom of expression cannot be illegal and is a basic right. But riots, violent actions give the grounds to limit those freedoms,” he said. “A state must be strong, if it wants to remain democratic.”

The Long Story of U.S. Debt, From 1790 to 2011, in 1 Little Chart

War has been a huge contributor to the U.S. debt, and we're still paying for our wars even today. Imagine what we could rather do with that money, which is not billions but trillions of dollars, like funding solutions to the extreme income inequality we face, which is a costly problem in itself, though nothing near the money spent on war, some of which goes to paying for the millions of jobs in the industries which provide services and equipment to be used in wars, which is also why we need an economic solution, so that individuals don't have to make bombs for a living, because it makes no sense to employ ourselves in taking life from others to secure our own financial security, when the wars are what is putting us into such massive debt in the first place. We constantly need yet another war to bail us out of each previous one, with the result of becoming further and further in debt, how much more can we repeat this never-ending cycle before it goes too far?
