Day 224: What's the First Step to Caring For Real?

"It's as if we think that if we allow ourself to be self honest about what we are really doing and who we really are in our behavior and actions, that then we'll see ourself as bad or wrong or evil, and yet it's just the opposite in a way where when we are hiding that reality from ourself, that is actually what we could call evil, because then you are going to continue in such behavior all the while pretending you're not. So rather we would want to face the truth of ourselves, so we can really see what it is that we are doing, because then we can change our input as what we are living into this world, and that would change the output, of what we get back from the world. So we would become the cure for the nastiness that exist in the world by starting with ourselves first."

Day 528: The Value of Validation

I can relate to this in my own experience as well, where doing things becomes about trying to achieve some form of validation, rather than doing something for the sake of doing it, because I actually enjoy it or because it produces a positive benefit to myself and my world. This is how we'll end up doing really strange or even detrimental things in reality, because we're looking for some experience and not paying attention to what it is we're really doing.

When you look at how much TIME you have invested in facing things with yourself and compare it to the CHANGE you see in yourself and life: why do you sometimes notice that the amount of time you invest in changing yourself not equate with the actual changes you undergo? How does this signify that you are not pushing yourself enough in your process in order to bring through actual change in yourself and your life?

Activist's Journey To Life: Day 528: The Value of Validation

"Obviously just because we feel rewarded or "good" about something doesn't mean that it is actually "good" for us. What You Need to Earn to Rent a Decent One-Bedroom in America

"Unsurprisingly, the “housing wage” is much higher than the minimum wage in much of the country.… As a commentary on the national minimum-wage debate, this map is limited. While it suggests that a minimum-wage worker can’t afford housing in Seattle (where the one-bedroom housing wage is $17.56 an hour), in reality that person probably finds housing by renting a room in someone else’s home, by living in the cheapest part of town, or by working considerably more than 40 hours a week." Being local to Seattle I can attest to this - I know many individuals who rent rooms or live farther away in cheaper areas and commute to city jobs, to be able to afford rent on low incomes.

War Propaganda

The blatant distortion of the truth and the systematic manipulation of all sources of information is an integral part of war planning … Acts of war are heralded as “humanitarian interventions” geared towards “regime change” and “the restoration of democracy”. Military occupation and the killing of civilians are presented as “peace-keeping”. The derogation of civil liberties –in the context of the so-called “anti-terrorist legislation”– is portrayed as a means to providing “domestic security” and upholding civil liberties … Twisting of public opinion at home and around the World, is an integral part of the War agenda, War propaganda is pursued at all stages: before, during the military operation as well as in its cruel aftermath. War propaganda serves to drown the real causes and consequences of war … The most powerful component of the Fear and Disinformation Campaign (FDI) rests with the CIA, which, secretly subsidizes authors, journalists and media critics, through a web of private foundations and CIA sponsored front organizations. The CIA also influences the scope and direction of many Hollywood productions. Since 9/11, one third of Hollywood productions are war movies … Covert disinformation initiatives under CIA auspices are also funneled through various intelligence proxies in other countries … The propaganda campaign is geared towards sustaining the illusion that “America is under attack” … these “fabricated realities” portray the war as a bona fide act of self-defense, while carefully concealing the broad strategic and economic objectives of the war …

Cultivating Social Change Through Education: DAY 80

"The structures and systems are coming from within us and not (at least in this context) from for example observing nature and how it operates. When we create hierarchical structures where some workers are considered less valuable and than others and therefore earn less, it is because that is how we have come to think and see each other as human beings in this world. This is why hierarchies and inequality re-emerges, even when the formal structure of hierarchy is removed from for example a business structure. And here we are not only talking about traits of human nature, like greed or inequality that are directly taught to us in our life time from parents and schools. We are talking about centuries of cultivation causing these traits to become embedded into our biocultural nature, as Johnson would put it. Human traits such as greed, self-interest and inequality is embedded into every aspect of human life, from our inner thought-processes to how we structure our physical environments. As such, it is not possible to simply remove one part of the equation and expect the rest to naturally change as well. Cultivating ourselves as human beings into what it is we exist as today has been a long process and changing that therefore obviously is going to take time and diligence. One of the most effective and imperative ways of eliciting social change is through Education."

Reduce Record Wall Street Bonuses and Double the Pay of Minimum Wage Workers Instead

"While fast food workers are fighting for survival wages, IPS points out that they could have a livable income if the Wall Street bonuses were not so excessive: Wall Street banks handed out $26.7 billion in bonuses to their 165,200 employees last year. That amount would be enough to more than double the pay for all 1,085,000 Americans who work full-time at the current federal minimum wage of $7.25 per hour. IPS also points out the inherent risk of our economy crashing again because of lavish rewards for pushing through the envelope of financial regulation: This immense GDP differential only speaks to one price we pay for our contemporary Wall Street bonus reward culture. Huge bonuses, we learned from the 2008 financial industry meltdown, create an incentive for high-risk behaviors that endanger the entire economy. And regulators have failed to implement a provision in the 2010 Dodd-Frank financial reform legislation to prohibit financial industry pay packages that encourage “inappropriate risks.” Low-wage jobs, on the other hand, endanger nothing. Concentrated in agriculture, hospitality, and retail, these jobs provide real services. They deserve much higher minimal rewards. "

Day 387: Current System is not Educating, Just Indoctrinating

"The key for us to get out from where we are will be Education, it will have to be given with compassion and humbly, especially by those who have walked the planet longer, having been here longer and having the world still in this state is not a monument to our effectiveness or something to be proud of, so we better hear the message of Federico, understand how we affect other people’s lives, the responsibility of our words and then thread with care on the minds of those who are still searching to get out of the maze, we can open up avenues or load up another truckload of crap into their minds, if we really care about our future we’ll do whatever it takes to realign ourselves to a supportive communication understanding that words are nails and even when we take them back, or try to, they have left a mark."

Socialized to Function in a Dysfunctional Society: DAY 75

"As parents we are expected to automatically know how to care for our child and bring it up to become an effective human being. Simply through being parents there an innate belief and validation of one’s skills as a human being as though simply by being able to reproduce we are automatically also able to teach another how to live effectively in this world. But how many of us actually live effectively? How many of us actually live based on the directive principle of what is Best for All? How many of us have not transferred our own emotional baggage to our children inadvertently only to see them grow up to make the exact it mistakes we did? Simply because we are a parent, an adult or even a teacher educated to teach children there is no surety that we will be able to raise a child to become an effective human being. If it was so, we would have already done it and the world would be in a completely different state than it is in right now."

Raising the #minimumwage would benefit the economy more than #WallSt bonuses do:

"When low-wage workers spend their money at the grocery store or on utility bills, this cash ripples through the economy. According to my new report, every extra dollar going into the pockets of low-wage workers adds about $1.21 to the national economy. Every extra dollar a high-income American makes, by contrast, only adds about 39 cents to the gross domestic product (GDP). And these pennies add up. If the $26.7 billion Wall Streeters pulled in on their bonuses last year had instead gone to minimum wage workers, our economy would be expected to grow by about $32.3 billion — more than triple the $10.4 billion boost expected from the Wall Street bonuses." According to report author Sarah Anderson, director of the Global Economy Project at the Institute of Policy Studies, if that $26.7 billion was instead paid to minimum wage workers, the economic ripple effect would have grown the United State's Gross Domestic Product by about $32.3 billion."

Switzerland’s Proposal to Pay People for Being Alive

"There’s a deeper, scarier reason that arguments for guaranteed incomes have resurfaced of late. Wages are stagnant, unemployment is high and tens of millions of families are struggling in Europe and here at home. Despite record corporate earnings and skyrocketing fortunes for the college-educated and already well-off, the job market is simply not rewarding many fully employed workers with a decent way of life. Millions of households have had no real increase in earnings since the late 1980s. Consider the current debate over fast-food workers’ wages." ~ NYTimes.com

Debunking Consciousness: Are Humans Really the Most Intelligent Species on the Planet?

"What does it say about human intelligence that for all our apparent intelligence, we didn't realize and take into consideration our dependence on the other beings here, but we went ahead and decided we could use them for our own purposes as we see fit, which actually contribute to our own detriment and harm. Since as we terrorize, destroy, pollute otherwise wreak havoc on our world, we do so to ourselves, tainting the very food we eat, the water we drink, the air we breathe. Does that sound like the actions of an 'intelligent' species?"

Americans trash about 1/3 of their food, worth $161bn - USDA

"The shocking statistic gives a new meaning to the term ‘junk food,’ as Americans are sending 133 billion lbs (60 billion kg) of food to the garbage dump each year. To put it another way, 141 trillion calories annually – or 1,249 calories per capita daily – went uneaten in the United States, according to a report by the US Department of Agriculture. The USDA warned that developed countries like the United States – where 49 million people lived in food-insecure households out of a total population of over 305 million - should not take their current level of food security for granted. " Food is a Human Right - but WHY is it wasted?

A Wage Slave's Journey to Life: Day 1: Do You Care about Your Low Wage Job?

"So, essentially, our 'jobs' don't really care about us. We are usually quite expendable/easily replaced and so there's really no regard for you as an individual human being who is giving their labor to this company so it can make a profit. If you don't want to do the job, then you can just be fired and the next one brought in. What happens then is that we take this lack of care for us and use it as the justification to do the same, to not care either. Where, if my job doesn't care about me, then why am I going to care about it. Why would I do more than I have to? Why am I really going to put myself into it and do my best, when it's perfectly happy to take the profits from my labor and not pay me enough, not pay me the true value of what I put in?"

4 ways privatization is ruining our education system

"1. Charter Schools Have Not Improved Education 2. The Profit Motive Perverts the Goals of Education 3. Advanced Profit-Making: Higher Education 4. Lower-Performing Children Left Behind Compared to other developed countries, equal education has been a low priority in America, with less spending on poor children than rich ones, and with repeated cutbacks in state funding. But there’s no market-based reform where children are involved. Education can’t be reduced to a lottery, or a testing app, or a business plan. Equal opportunity in education ensures that every child is encouraged and challenged and nurtured from the earliest age, as we expect for our own children." America can spend 8.5 trillion dollars on defense department, but suffers from turning Education into a very expensive indoctrination machine. Living Income Guaranteed model will ensure no more privatization of Education takes place, we also agree that the Profit-Motive perverts Education. World's largest solar farm is SCORCHING BIRDS that fly over it

"cool observation, we are attempting to create energy sources to sustain our current destructive WAY of LIFE, which we call life styles, we need to reduce our life styles to that which is sustainable, then we don't need farms and massive areas to create massive farms of renewable energy sources. much is to be considered and taken into account before we can reach real change. otherwise we are just fucking around and harming life more." Gian Robberts Great point and important to get. We've really got to take everything into consideration and look at what is really necessary so we can produce as little harm as possible, because why would we want to produce harm in any case if it's not actually necessary and can be avoided? We've got to remember and consider that we aren't the only beings on this planet, there are many many others that function in many many different ways, all affected by our impact for better or worse. Let's make sure it's better.

Robert Reich: Inequality has warped the minds of America’s rich

"#America has a serious “We” problem — as in “Why should we pay for them?” The question is popping up all over the place. It underlies the debate over extending #unemployment benefits to the long-term unemployed and providing food stamps to the poor. It’s found in the resistance of some young and healthy people to being required to buy health insurance in order to help pay for people with preexisting health problems." #RobertReich #inequalityforall

Joao Jesus - She

A great song by Joao Jesus! Lyrics: She, She is like a light in a dark room With curly hair to fight away the gloom You’ve never seen such care She won’t stop until she gets it done Even a horse she can outrun And she can be quite fun She is a Life lover She is such a nice hugger She is a Life lover She is such a nice hugger She, She has traveled across the stars Although she barely can drive a car She can get to where you are In just one single breath She can see beyond death And show you how to be free She is a Life lover She is such a nice hugger She is a Life lover She is such a nice hugger I hope you get the chance To meet her for a dance She is a Life lover She is such a nice hugger She is a Life lover She is such a nice hugger I hope you get the chance To meet her for a dance

World's 85 richest people have as much as poorest 3.5 billion: Oxfam warns Davos of ‘pernicious impact’ of the widening wealth gap

“This massive concentration of economic resources in the hands of fewer people presents a significant threat to inclusive political and economic systems,” the charity said. “People are increasingly separated by economic and political power, inevitably heightening social tensions and increasing the risk of societal breakdown.” Winnie Byanyima, Oxfam’s executive director, who will attend Davos, described the gulf between sectors of society as staggering. “We cannot hope to win the fight against poverty without tackling inequality. Widening inequality is creating a vicious circle where wealth and power are increasingly concentrated in the hands of a few, leaving the rest of us to fight over crumbs from the top table,” she said.

West’s interpretation of freedom for Ukraine ‘strange’ – Lavrov

“What does the inciting of street protests, which are growing increasingly violent, have to do with promoting democratic principles?” Lavrov said. “Why do we not hear statements of condemnation toward those who seize government buildings, attack and burn police officers, and voice racist and anti-Semitic slogans? Why do senior European politicians de facto encourage such actions, while at home they swiftly and harshly act to stop any impingement on the letter of the law?” “The International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights states that the freedom of expression cannot be illegal and is a basic right. But riots, violent actions give the grounds to limit those freedoms,” he said. “A state must be strong, if it wants to remain democratic.”

The Long Story of U.S. Debt, From 1790 to 2011, in 1 Little Chart

War has been a huge contributor to the U.S. debt, and we're still paying for our wars even today. Imagine what we could rather do with that money, which is not billions but trillions of dollars, like funding solutions to the extreme income inequality we face, which is a costly problem in itself, though nothing near the money spent on war, some of which goes to paying for the millions of jobs in the industries which provide services and equipment to be used in wars, which is also why we need an economic solution, so that individuals don't have to make bombs for a living, because it makes no sense to employ ourselves in taking life from others to secure our own financial security, when the wars are what is putting us into such massive debt in the first place. We constantly need yet another war to bail us out of each previous one, with the result of becoming further and further in debt, how much more can we repeat this never-ending cycle before it goes too far?

The State of Our Nation: The Greatest Threat to Our Freedoms Is the Government

Watching these bureaucrats, both elected and appointed, interact in the unguarded moments before the event, with their hugging and kissing and nudging and joking and hobnobbing and general high spirits, I was reminded anew that these people—Republicans and Democrats alike—are united in a common goal, and it is not to protect and defend the Constitution. No, as Orwell recognized in Animal Farm, their common goal is to maintain the status quo, a goal that is helped along by an unquestioning, easily mollified, corporate media. In this way, the carefully crafted spectacle that is the State of the Union address is just that: an exaggerated farce of political theater intended to dazzle, distract and divide us, all the while the police state marches steadily forward ...

This conservative billionaire wants to raise the minimum wage

"The whole thing is it’s not really a traditional ideological issue. What you have right now is a system of massive welfare spending, over $250 billion a year in social welfare programs going to the working poor. In other words, people have jobs but they cannot survive on their paychecks. And those payments really amount to subsidies to low-wage employers. It’s a classic case of where businesses manage to privatize the benefits of their workers—they get the work—and socialize the costs. They’ve shifted the costs over to taxpayer and the government. And that is not something that free market economists like. It’s a classic problem in any kind of economic system. So when you’re talking about a much higher minimum wage, which would automatically produce huge cuts in government social welfare spending, that’s the sort of thing that conservatives begin to like." Ukraine and the Rebirth of Fascism in Europe

In an attempt to pry Ukraine out of the Russian sphere of influence, the US-EU-NATO alliance has, not for the first time, allied itself with fascists. Of course, for decades, millions in Latin America were disappeared or murdered by fascist paramilitary forces armed and supported by the United States. The mujahideen of Afghanistan, which later transmogrified into Al Qaeda, also extreme ideological reactionaries, were created and financed by the United States for the purposes of destabilizing Russia. And of course, there is the painful reality of Libya and, most recently Syria, where the United States and its allies finance and support extremist jihadis against a government that has refused to align with the US and Israel. There is a disturbing pattern here that has never been lost on keen political observers: the United States always makes common cause with right wing extremists and fascists for geopolitical gain … Ukraine and the rise of right wing extremism there cannot be seen, let alone understood, in isolation. Rather, it must be examined as part of a growing trend throughout Europe (and indeed the world) – a trend which threatens the very foundations of democracy …

Why the leaders of the two largest developed economies are begging companies to raise pay

"Higher salaries for workers eat into corporate profits, and with high unemployment in the US and low labor force participation in Japan, there isn’t the labor scarcity needed to force companies to pay their workers better. So why are they pursuing this quixotic task? +In a word: deflation. Wage increases would help create positive inflation, but equally important, they would ameliorate stagnant incomes seen in both Japan and the US in recent years and goose domestic demand. Japanese wages have been falling since 2000, while US wages still haven’t come close to regaining their pre-crisis highs." What is missing is providing higher wages in an overall model that no only 'raises wages' but also expands consumer base: this is done through providing a Living Income to non-workers and so, corporate profits won't be 'eaten' by giving 'higher wages' and instead will actually gain new costumers in exchange of providing higher wages to their workers. Ukraine: Foreign Engineered Regime Change Operation

The so called Ukrainian “opposition” now resembles something more akin to armed insurgents in Syria involved in a coup d’Ć©tat than opposition protestors … The scene currently playing out in Ukraine has all of the signs of a foreign engineered regime change operation and with the taking of government buildings, has unarguably moved into a scenario where the continuity of the state is in question … In a way it’s replaced Syria as the proxy conflict between the East and West with the West once again on the offensive … It is a fact that Ukraine is a bone of contention between the Westernized Slavic part of Europe, if you will, those with the Latin alphabet and the Roman Catholic religion and those with the Cyrillic alphabet and the Orthodox religion which Ukraine for the most part is. And that we’ve seen similar situations after World War 1, during World War 2 … Ukraine is strategically vital, it is indispensable. In the energy wars that the US and its European Union allies, which is to say NATO allies, have been waging over the past decade to try to curtail Russian exports of natural gas and oil to Europe, ultimately perhaps to cut them off altogether in favor of natural gas and oil projects bringing Caspian Sea energy into Europe via the Caucasus, Azerbaijan and Georgia, but of course from there to Ukraine, from Ukraine into the Western Europe. So Ukraine is significant in that sense. Ukraine is also one of four countries that NATO has announced, four non-NATO countries, that are to join the NATO Response Force, that is the international strike force that NATO has developed. The other three are Georgia, Finland and Sweden. Of course three of those four countries, all except Sweden, have lengthy borders with Russia …

Bayer Pharmaceutical CEO: Cancer drug only ‘for western patients who can afford it’ | The Raw Story

The drug, which is particularly effective on late-stage kidney and liver cancer, costs approximately $69,000 per year in India, so in March 2012 an Indian court granted a license to an Indian company to produce to the drug at a 97 percent discount. Bayer sued Natco Pharma Ltd., but in March of last year, the High Court in Mumbai denied its appeal. Bayer CEO called the compulsory license issued by the Indian court “essentially theft,” then said “[w]e did not develop this medicine for Indians…[w]e developed it for western patients who can afford it.”

A Teacher's Journey to Life: How do You Speak With Children? DAY 63

"We tend to find being with children very boring, as though they are a little bit retarded or a burden even, where we don’t listen to them and constantly think about being somewhere else, being on our phones or in our heads while focusing on our ‘role’ as a ‘parent’ or ‘teacher’ or ‘caretaker’. What happens is that when we really engage ourselves in communicating with children, we also open up. And so what is actually boring about being with children, is not the child – it is ourselves, because we have limited ourselves and the situation into a one-dimensional and one-way communication that doesn’t allow neither child nor adult to expand or express unconditionally." - Anna Brix Thomsen

The housing recovery leaves America separate and unequal, once again

"A lot of the differences along the path to homeownership can be attributed to differences in education level, credit scores, and income among the races; blacks and #Hispanics have a lower average income than whites and #Asians, and #blacks and Hispanics who apply for a mortgage are much more likely to have a lower #credit score. Asians are more likely than the other races to achieve a higher level of education, which contributes to higher incomes." #Housing is a #HumanRight, #Education is a Human Right, but unfortunately Money still defines who gets what education and which job opportunities are available for such levels of education, which implies that from the very beginning, the place that we are born into defines our ability to live in dignity for the rest of our lives or not. We say: It's time to give Everyone an Equal Right to Live in Dignity: #LivingIncome Guaranteed by Equal Life Foundation is the immediate solution to remedy these growing problems.

The secret SLAVES in our curry houses: Lured to our shores with promises of riches - then...

"This is not a story of illegal immigration or, in many cases, of premeditated law-breaking. Abdul was not the client of a conventional human trafficker; he didn’t arrive in the UK secreted in the back of a lorry or carrying a false passport. He came quite openly and with the correct permissions. He graduated back home in ‘social services’, a qualification that allowed him to become a teacher or civil servant. But in Bangladesh ‘there are few jobs, poor pay and much competition’, he explains." Higher #wages for a dignified living is what we propose in the #LivingIncome Guaranteed. Immigration will cease to exist as a necessity to seek higher wages and as such reduce the economic stress in countries that take in most of the immigrants as well. #immigration #UK #solutions

8-year-old bride dies from internal injuries because of 40-year-old husband

"Parents who live in fear of poverty choose arranged marriages as a way to save their struggling families. Therefore, more young girls are being forced into arranged marriages. According to the World Health Organization, everyday 39,000 girls younger than 18 are forced to marry" This atrocity, surely only one of many, shows clearly why it's not appropriate for adults to try to have sexual relations with children. This is why we need a living income for all, so that marrying off your too-young daughter is not a choice you have to face because of your abject poverty.

Why the US might want to encourage wealth inequality

"A problem with wealth inequality is that it is passed on from one generation to the next, namely through inheritances and access to more expensive education. Their solution is a progressive wealth tax (a bigger tax rate on higher amounts of wealth; Altman suggests starting at $500,000). The idea is already catching on in the US; last year’s budget included a tax increase on capital gains, to 20%, just for higher earners. But if wealth inequality is a problem, then progressive wealth taxes aren’t the right solution." The solution is not through augmenting taxes, but instead using a nation's source of profit and distribute it back to the people as a citizen's dividend. This will reduce the amassing of wealth in the hands of a few and instead, empower the population, eradicating poverty and providing higher wages - this is the solution that Living Income Proposes: http://wp.me/P42l71-65

Day 271: Yearly Salary "Raise"

"It sounds cool when the company sends you the letter about the raise in your salary yet when taking the inflation into account which is two times higher than the raise we then realize that our purchasing power has actually diminished. And that’s what has been happening for many many years now where the human labor is slowly but surely devalued."

The “middle class” myth: Here’s why wages are really so low today

"Why did Rob Stanley, an unskilled high school graduate, live so much better than someone with similar qualifications could even dream of today? Because the workers at Interlake Steel were represented by the United Steelworkers of America, who demanded a decent salary for all jobs. The workers at KFC are represented by nobody but themselves, so they have to accept a wage a few cents above what Congress has decided is criminal."
